Reinforcing masonry

Reinforcing masonry

The purpose of structural reinforcement is to restore the mechanical features of the masonry. This is done by injecting a binding mixture called RESIFLOW TX between the stone ashlars. RESIFLOW TX is a fluid grout based on hydraulic lime with low contents of soluble salts and which is added to highly fluidizing and expansive agents. RESIFLOW TX has a slightly thixotropic behavior during injection. It enables the reduction of casting and the dispersion of material by gravity before hardening. During the hydration reaction which hardens the mixture, most soluble alkaline components are fixed as insoluble salts which can’t be washed away in water and can’t be attacked by carbon dioxide.

Injection of RESIFLOW TX binding mixture in each hole is done by going bottom up and using a manual or automatic pump with manometer. Pressure must be kept constant until the binding mixture comes out of the tubes.

Immediately after finishing to reinforce injections, proceed to wash the masonry with water to remove the reinforcing agent which has come out from the joint. When hardening is complete, the tubes are eliminated and holes are stuccoed with lime, stone powder and RESIRIPRESA 901 acrylic resin.

This type of operation makes it difficult to estimate the consumption of material: cavities within the masonry can only be assessed thanks to coring.

Products to reinforce masonry:

Consumption: Due to the fact you can’t see inside the cracking it is difficult to assess whether there are any cavities or other cracks spreading from it. Therefore consumption cannot be calculated before proceeding. Please refer to the specific gravity which for RESIFLOW TX and CON.DUE products is of approx. 1.6 kg/dm3.
